We often think of our bedroom as a retreat from the rest of the world, a safe spot where you can hide away and get some rest. Here are the 5 must haves every great bedroom design needs in order to create a beautiful, personal and comfortable room.
Some Personality – Your bedroom is all about you, so display the things that make you happy! This is a great spot for souvenirs collected over the years that don’t really fit anywhere else in the house. You don’t want the room to look like you bought out the local knick-knack shop, but an odd numbered grouping of 3 or 5 personal favorites is best. You obviously collected these items because you liked them, so place them somewhere that you can see them often. I love the above collection of pictures. The art piece of the little fox (or whatever it is! ;)) is super cute, but might not be appropriate elsewhere in the house. When you rise and shine each morning however, that will definitely put a smile on your face!
A Comfy Spot to Sit – You don’t always want to be on the bed when you are in your room, so create a nook where you can read, or chat on the phone. This is a great place to put that chair or bench you’ve been eyeing that is a little bit unique and doesn’t work in other rooms. It will come in handy when you need to lace up those gladiator sandals in the morning too. 😉 The green velvet chair is fun and funky and looks amazingly comfortable.

A Soft and Fluffy Rug – When you’re waking up from a warm cozy bed, the last thing you want to do is step on a cold floor with your bare feet. A plush rug with a great pad can add texture and color to your bedroom, as well as make those early Monday mornings a lot easier to face.

A Perfectly Stocked Nightstand – I know it sounds like I’m talking about a refrigerator here, but really, a well stocked nightstand is key to relaxing once you head to bed. There is nothing worse than having to get up out of the bed multiple times to retrieve something that you forgot. I love all those pretty nightstands that have open shelving, but let’s get real. This is a hard working piece of furniture. Think of those things that you use regularly before bed…chapstick, lotion, a bottle of water, the TV remote…whatever you need, make sure that anything you need to stay comfortable is hidden and within arms reach. This super cool nightstand is ready to hide all kinds of great stuff and keep your room looking tidy. Here are some great nightstands and chests on the market right now that are stylish and would hide all kinds of fun stuff…
I love every single one of these pillows…
Throw Pillows – I have heard it said that pillows are like stuffed animals for adults. I get it. I hoarded stuffed animals as a kid and now I hoard pillows. 😉 Pillows look pretty, are comfy to lay on, and make a bed look like a million bucks. They are also one of the easiest and least expensive ways to totally change the look of a room…but there is such a thing as too many pillows. I know, I know. 😉 Depending on the size of your bed, between 2-6 pillows is a good number.
It’s not hard to create a beautiful and comfortable bedroom with these 5 must haves. I hope you are feeling inspired to put together something amazing in your own home.
Have a great day!
