Welcome to our Summer Home Decor tour! School officially ended last week of for us and it is so nice to have no schedule and have my favorite people hanging out at home with me for the next few months. I love teaming up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and participating in her fun home tours each season. She is such a great hostess and I really enjoy seeing all of the fun home decor ideas. If you are new to my blog or joining me from Heather’s beautiful summer home decor tour over at Setting for Four, welcome! Isn’t her tour beautiful? Thanks so much for stopping by! I am so excited to share this room reveal with you today!
I spent some time last week up at a current client remodel project, the Midway Modern Farmhouse, working on some cabinet changes and a few other things and I had to kind of chuckle as I wrote this post. It is amazing to me that in a matter of 6 months I will have helped to completely gut a large old home inside and out, design everything and make it new again…and at the same time here I am struggling to simply get Ashley’s room decorated in under a year. 😉 I always find it so much easier to make design decisions for others…is that weird? Well, I am SUPER happy to have this one checked off my list…all decorated and put together. To think that just under two years ago this was a completely different house…this room has come a LONG way and I’m excited to share it with you today! I hope that if you are searching for cute room ideas for a teenage girl in your life this post and our bedroom makeover will be a help!
CUTE ROOM IDEAS FOR A TEENAGE GIRL
When we finally finished the construction part of the remodel of this home, it took me awhile to decide exactly what I wanted to do with this bedroom. I had searched for all kinds of modern girl’s bedroom ideas and pictures for teenage bedrooms trying to get inspired for the perfect girl’s room decor. Teenagers are hard! They want something “grown-up” looking, but at the same time they are still kids and have tastes that aren’t super sophisticated. I wanted to find a balance between fun and pretty. Fortunately, Ash is pretty trusting and amenable to my ideas, so I asked her what she really wanted and she let me take it from there. The main things she was hoping for were:
1. Pink – but not a “baby pink.”
2. a place for pictures with friends
3. that it reminded her of the beach and home in CA
4. a desk
Judging by her reaction to the finished product, I think I accomplished those goals. 😉
TEEN BEDROOM FURNITURE
The first order of business was trying to find a desk and another nightstand/chest that would fit in the room and work well together. That proved to be harder than I thought it was going to be! Because I was working with two pieces that would be different to begin with (desk and chest) I knew I wanted them to be similar in size and preferably from the same set. I wasn’t going for a matchy-matchy look with the whole room, but since I knew I was going to be using a different bed and dresser, I didn’t want there to be TOO much going on. Her room is quite large, and I prefer big pieces next to the bed, so finding something that was the right size, looked balanced on both sides of the bed both in width and height, and came in a desk and a chest left us with one option…and I looked EVERYWHERE! Fortunately it was a good one! 😉 . This cute desk and dresser are perfect for the space and the overall feel of her room.
I had my eye on this bed since before we finished construction on the house. I love the cane headboard and the coastal feel. I knew the bed, and its matching dresser were going somewhere in this house…I just had to determine where. They ended up being the perfect look and fit for Ashley’s modern girl’s bedroom. I waited for them to go on sale and scooped them up.
TEEN GIRL’S BEDDING SETS
I have never been one that loves a bedroom “set” when it comes to putting together girl’s bedding…or any bedding for that matter. The fun for me is customizing things to create the exact look I want. I had seen this quilt in a different color back a few months ago and fell in love. I love the quilted look to it.
I knew I wanted something ruffled for the duvet cover…but subtle ruffles…nothing crazy. This duvet cover was exactly what I was looking for, along with these shams. I found the perfect blush slightly patterned sheets at HomeGoods and a few pillows that I had picked up there a couple of months ago were a perfect fit too.
I didn’t buy them for anything particular at the time, I just knew they were cool, so I grabbed them and figured I would find something to do with them later. That’s kind of my HomeGoods MO when I see something extra cool that I really love. 😉 . She may be a teenager, but there is always a place on her bed for her favorite teddy bear. 😉
GIRL’S ROOM DECOR AND BEDROOM ACCESSORIES
Since Ash had handed me a pretty simple teenage bedroom color scheme…pink…I wanted to find some girly bedroom decor that didn’t look babyish. Moving into more of a blush color was an easy way to update the pink look and modernize this room. A lot of girl’s bedroom accessories tend to be more on the younger looking side…especially those in pink, so I found mixing in gold and some gray made it much easier to make it more teenager appropriate too. I added this pretty gold curtain rod and these blush black out drapes for privacy. She loves being able to sleep in now! 😉 In this iphone age, everyone seems to have a camera on them at all times and a ton of pictures with friends. It was easy to find cute frames ( I love these brass frames) and fill them with pictures of her and her friends which instantly personalized the room for her.
We used this message board to give her a spot above her desk to add more pictures along with doodles and quotes and all kinds of things that she would have otherwise plastered all over her walls. 😉 I love this cute pink globe that brought in another blush element to the top of her desk too. A gold task lamp gives her plenty of lighting when she is crafting or doing homework and a large pencil and pen caddy is perfect for her large collection of art supplies.
On her dresser we went with more pictures and another lamp. I always think a tray is a good idea when you are creating a collection of accessories. This tray is one of my favorites. I have a few of them and they come in a couple of finishes. I added a cute inexpensive jewelry tree, perfect for holding things like necklaces, scrunchies and a few other accessories.
A few more additions include a candle that she loves the smell of and some faux greenery. (You can read more about my favorite faux greenery for our home here) Ash added the pink piggy bank…another one of her favorite things. 😉 . The large canvas I found at HomeGoods and it is one of my favorite pieces. It incorporates all of the colors that we wanted to bring into the room and really reminds both of us of an Orange County sunset over the ocean.
This was such a fun room to put together and I hope that it is giving you some cute room ideas for a teenage girl in your life! Ash has been working extra hard to keep her room clean and make her bed every morning since we decorated. I hope she keeps that up! 😉 I still want to add a few more pieces of art (you can read about some of my favorites here) and get a full length mirror for the corner next to the dresser, but other than that, I think we are pretty close to being finished!
I’ll add links and info to all of the products that I used here, click on any image to get more information about the product, but be sure to come join me over on RewardStyle too where I try to keep updated posts of everything I am using the decorate the house.
