If you are thinking about a family trip to Venice, Italy this year, look no further for a fabulous hotel. The JW Marriott Venice Italy located on Isola delle Rose Venezia is amazing! Venice can be a hot and crowded place to visit during the summer, and I’ve heard many people say that it wasn’t one of their favorite places to see in Italy…well it actually tops our list of one of our favorites and I think that our hotel experience at the JW Marriott Venice might be one of the main reasons for that! 😉 A bit ago we were staying at another property in the area and watching this gorgeous resort being constructed on Isola delle Rose Venezia and we couldn’t wait to return and stay. I am so glad we had the opportunity! It does not disappoint! Affiliate links are included in this post.
WHERE IS ISOLA DELLE ROSE VENEZIA AND THE JW MARRIOTT VENICE ITALY LOCATED?
Situated on the private island Isola delle Rose Venezia, about a 15 minute boat ride from St. Mark’s square, is a beautiful, modern, family friendly resort. One of my favorite experiences in Venice is a private taxi ride from the airport into town.
The JW Marriott Venice, Italy took full advantage of it’s location on Isola delle Rose Venezia to make that taxi ride and arrival at the hotel even more thrilling! Upon arrival by boat (think James Bond) you are welcomed in a private dock that makes you feel like a movie star. The resort also offers a private water taxi to and from the main island that leaves every 20 minutes or so, making it super easy to get back and forth between the hotel and anything else you want to see or do in Venice.
ROOMS AT THE JW MARRIOTT VENICE ITALY
The 40 acre resort has a variety of room options available for all kinds of travelers. The main hotel building offers everything from deluxe rooms to premium suites and is housed in a large 200 or so room building that is also home to the main hotel lobby, cooking school, restaurants and adult pool.
Other buildings on Isola delle Rose Venezia offer unique accommodations like two story loft style residences and suites with private pools. Another gorgeous building on the property, known as L’Uliveto, is a small collection of suites nestled among gorgeous olive trees. Since we were staying as a family of four, we opted for one of the suites in L’Uliveto.
Upon arrival at the private dock, we were met by a golf cart that whisked us away to L’Uliveto for a private check-in to our suite. We were offered water and seated in the pretty, private lobby where all of the details of our stay were reviewed, and we were given a tour via map of the resort to acquaint us with the many offerings available for guests.
Our room was stunning! A pretty living area that had plenty of room to accommodate two twin beds for the kids, a sofa, TV and table. A hallway with two beautifully appointed full bathrooms and a closet along the way, led to a huge master bedroom with a king bed, desk, and sitting area…all with windows looking out on beautiful olive trees. It was a perfect spot for our family to relax and enjoy a wonderful week in Venice.
ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES AT THE JW MARRIOTT VENICE
One of the reasons we love staying off the main island of Venice is to have an escape from the heat and crowds that this bustling city, full of cruise ship and other tourists during the day, can be over run with. Visiting Venice in the summer it’s just hot. There’s no way around it.
Having a hotel with beautiful pools is a must…especially if you want to keep little ones (and teens and tweens) happy. Fortunately, the JW Marriott Venice, Italy has lots of family friendly activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the day, and then you can head into the city in the early evening to explore when the crowds have dies down and temperatures have dipped a bit. A few of the amenities that island of Isola delle Rose and the JW Marriott Venice offers include:
JW MARRIOTT VENICE Family Pool– The swanky rooftop pool is great for the over 18 set, but no one sunbathing up top has any interest in being splashed and listening to littles play in the pool. Thank heavens for a gorgeous family pool that is large and inviting. Umbrellas and lounge chairs line the rectangular pool and poolside service is fantastic.
If you prefer, you can eat at the cute Giardino Restaurant located next to the pool instead. It’s a great place for dining at this family friendly resort. During our stay the provided some cool pool toys for the kids too. For the tiniest guests, there is a splash pad located near the family pool too. A cute gelato cart serves cool treats near the pool too.
Outdoor Games– When the kids need a break from the pool there are fun outdoor games on the property to enjoy too. Archery (with nerf type bows and arrows), tennis, basketball and ping pong are available to play. There is also a beautiful soccer field.
Bikes– For a small fee you can rent bikes as a family to explore the resort for the afternoon. With 40 acres to ride around, you can have quite a nice ride. Pick up a picnic and find a perfect spot in the park to enjoy lunch with your family. Even better, have a chic-nic prepared for you!
JW MARRIOTT VENICE Kid’s Club – the kid’s club is included (so awesome!) in the Resort Package. Such an awesome amentiy if you are traveling to Isola delle Rose Venezia with kids. Children ages 4- to 12-years old are welcome to join in the fun and it is open every day from 10.15 a.m. until 6.15 p.m. If mom and dad are looking for a chance to run over to take a tour on the main island, or want a chance to sneak away to the awesome rooftop adult pool, the Recreation Team will entertain the kiddos with daily outdoor and indoor activities.
Sapori Cooking Academy at the JW Marriott Venice, Italy
By far our most memorable experience in Venice, time spent at the Sapori cooking academy is fun for the whole family in Venice! Who doesn’t want to go to Italy and take a cooking class?! I contacted the JW Marriott Venice resort prior to our arrival to see if there was a way for us to work together while I was in town and they suggested and offered to provide an Authentic Venice cooking class and tour for our family. It was the perfect family experience for our Venice vacation!
We met Chef Luigi in the lobby of the hotel early Saturday morning and loaded onto a beautiful private water taxi to ride from Isola delle Rose to the local market. Riding through the quiet waterways of Venice early on a Saturday morning was a unique experience in itself. Seeing the city so quiet as the sun came up was beautiful!
We arrived 15 or so minutes later at the Rialto Market, a vibrant outdoor market full of fish and vibrant fruits and vegetables and narrow alley ways full of bakeries and market trading shops. This market has been in existence since 1097…and you feel that history!
Chef Luigi chatted with the local vendors and selected (and negotiated) for fresh ingredients for us to cook with when we returned to the Sapori Academy. It was all fascinating to watch!
After out market adventure we returned to Isola delle Rose Venezia with our ingredients and headed to the beautifully equipped kitchen at the cooking academy at the JW Marriott Venice Resort and Spa. We spent the next few hours cooking up a storm under the direction of Chef Luigi.
Mussels, fresh tomato sauce, beautiful appetizers, and of course, pasta! It was a meal fit for a king and Chef Luigi orchestrated all of it from scratch whipping it up on the spot with the ingredients we had been able to find earlier that morning.
We all learned tips and tricks along with the recipes and had a wonderful time together. After the hard work it was time to feast! We sat at the gorgeous wood table inside the kitchen and had a truly unforgettable meal. It was amazing to see what we had created!
The Sapori Cooking Academy was definitely a highlight of our time on Isola delle Rose Venezia and at the JW Marriott Venice Resort and Spa and I would highly recommend it! If the Market tour is not what you are looking for, they offer many 2 hour classes including appetizers, pizza and pasta. That might be perfect for younger guests.
A few important notes about the Sapori Cooking Academy classes:
-Cooking classes are free for guests aged 0-5. Guests aged 6-12 receive a 50% discount. All guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
-Classes are offered Tuesday-Saturday
-Advanced reservations are strongly encouraged and the cancellation policy is 48 hours.
DINING AT THE JW MARRIOTT VENICE ITALY
One of the concerns people sometimes have about staying in a more remote location like Isola delle Rose, is where to eat. We found all of the dining options at the JW Marriott Venice Italy Resort and Spa to be delicious. With eight different dining options available on the island there is truly something for everyone.
Our room package included breakfast for the family at the Cucina Daily Restaurant on the main floor of the main hotel building. The stunning breakfast buffet was delicious and had so many incredible options. It was a highlight each morning to dine alfresco on the beautiful resort grounds.
The Sagra Rooftop restaurant is a beautiful place to eat with spectacular 360 degree views of the entire lagoon surrounding Isola delle Rose. Sagra includes a kid’s menu too, which makes it a great spot for families.
If you are looking for something really special, Fiola at Dopolavoro is the resort’s fine-dining culinary concept. The stand alone building on Isola delle Rose combines a gorgeous ambiance with seasonal, locally sourced cuisine.
An array of ingredients from the Rialto Market, the Adriatic and produce grown in the island’s private vegetable garden help to create the menu which changes daily. Chef Fabio Trabocchi who has a collection of popular restaurants in Washington D.C. and Florida is the creative force behind this amazing restaurant.
There are several other casual spots for drinks and dining on the premises too, so there is plenty to keep you full of all kinds of Italian goodness!
**An important note about the JW Marriott Venice Italy Resort and Spa. The resort is a seasonal resort, which means it is closed for the winter season from early November to the middle of March each year.**
If you are thinking about spending some time in Venice, whether with your family or for a fun couples getaway, I highly recommend a stay at the JW Marriott Venice, Italy. We can’t wait to return to the beautiful Isola delle Rose Venezia!
