Modern Master Bedroom Ideas : Our Summer Home Tour

Hello and welcome to our summer home tour! Has summer officially started for you guys yet? We ended “school” (aka distance learning) a week and a half ago, and headed for our home in CA, but several of our friends here in CA still aren’t officially done. I don’t know what I would do if we still had two weeks of school left. This whole semester has been such a wild experience, I can’t imagine it dragging on this long! And this is coming from a seasoned homeschooler! 😉 Well, in between lots of family time, meal prep, school tutoring and work…I did manage to get our master bedroom finished. I couldn’t be happier! It has been a long time coming, and it feels so good to finally get it checked off the list! 😉 I searched for all kinds of modern master bedroom ideas and coastal master bedroom ideas and finally put something together. I am so excited to share our master bedroom ideas with you all as a part of Marty’s awesome summer home tour. I haven’t blogged in several weeks and it feels good to dust off the computer and share again! Yay! If you are joining me from Laura’s beautiful blog, it’s so nice to meet you! Isn’t her summer home pretty? I am so happy to have you here and I hope you enjoy my modern master bedroom ideas.

If you know me, you know I love blue. And if you are new here, Hi, I’m Tammy and I love blue. 😉 Growing up in sunny San Diego, and then spending my entire adult life in Orange County, it’s hard for me to give up my love for all things coastal…even though we’ve spent much of the last 3 years in Salt Lake City. When I remodeled our 1987 home, I knew that I wanted things to be light and airy and to bring some of that California girl in me, to the mountains.

I have incorporated blue into most of the house, lots of different shades, but in the bedroom I wanted to use muted tones to make it a calm and serene space. I have had this bed for a few years, and the furniture for many years…so I added new accessories and most importantly gorgeous new pillows from one of my favorite pillow shops, Elsie Home. Pillows are by far the best way to transform any space, so if you are looking for a quick summer refresh for your home, be sure to check out all the gorgeous pillows in Lauren’s shop. If you see something you like, they sell out super quickly and she only does a limited run of each fabric, so grab them while you can!

These pretty blue striped pillows (the will be hitting the shop soon!), beautiful flax pillows and a soft denim lumbar were perfect for the bed. They give me just the perfect modern coastal look I was trying to achieve. For our king size bed I like to use three 22×22 inch pillows, two 20×20 inch pillows and one lumbar.

I ordered these chairs for our master bedroom a month or so ago, and I’m absolutely in love with them. We have a bay window, so I needed to add a great sitting area where John, who is an avid reader, can escape for some quiet time in the evenings with his latest book. These chairs are super comfortable. We used them in the Midway Modern Farmhouse living room too. They are so deep they can accommodate two pillows easily, so of course I had to add the pretty Parker pillow from Elsie Home, along with these whimsical lumbar pillows. The embroidered eyes are something unexpected and fun in an otherwise kind of serious adult space. 😉

I was lucky enough to find one of these cute striped cube ottomans at Target when I stopped in a few weeks ago. (My first trip into the store since February!) I knew it would be the perfect little side table in between the chairs.

I also added this pharmacy lamp for better light when John reads. Right now, if it does not come in magazine form, I am not a big reader. 😉 This book is a new favorite (I may not read, but I will always look at things with pretty pictures…especially about Italy ;)) and is the perfect addition to the ottoman, along with a cute magnifying glass like this one and my favorite peony’s in a  little brass vase.

All of this time spent staying home, has turned me into a bit more of a minimalist, so I am keeping the dresser and nightstand decor super simple. This little dotted pot is one of my absolute favorites, and this tray gets moved around all over the house because I love it so much.

I love this inexpensive and quite large framed canvas over the bed. I needed a bit more color in here and I love it. I also added a vintage painting to the dresser and a round Capiz mirror.

I love layered beds, with lots of texture. I still need to add a few linens to this bed, but I added a gauzy blue/gray throw on top of my white duvet. The color is a perfect match with the rug and the blue on the pretty new pillows.

A faux olive tree in the corner and a bench for added seating fill in the corner by the armoire.

I still have plans to add a few things in here…some drapes are a possibility, and I really want this pretty mirror to stand along the wall somewhere. I don’t have a full length mirror in the house and I think this would be so pretty, but other than that I think we are just about done in here!

  1. Love your beautiful coastal vibe for your Master Bedroom. What a great grouping of pillows. I really like the chair you chose for the seating area too, such a pretty style. Since I grew up in San Diego and lived in Los Angeles for a long time too, this really feels like Southern California. Thanks so much for joining the tour again this season.
