August Recap

Admittedly usually I’m better about weekly recaps, but this month not so much. 😉 So instead, I’m just going to do a quick monthly recap so I get my journaling in. 😉

August kicked off with John and I in London. I felt like I won the lottery getting to go to London twice in the span of a few weeks (except for the long-haul flights part!).

These trips were planned super far apart…one in January to coincide with Andy’s study abroad, and then a work trip came up for John in June. I wasn’t about to let him go alone. 😉

It was fun to be there together but boy was it rainy!

Such different weather than what  Ash and I were blessed with in May/June.

While John and I were in London Ash had the good fortune of getting to go to LA for the Taylor Swift concert.

Some dear friends of ours lucked out and got tickets and were SO nice to save one for her.

It was a blast and now I’m super sad I didn’t try to go. I didn’t think I’d care, but after seeing all the videos and hearing all the stories, I wish I had been there to experience it too!

As soon as John and I landed back in town from London, it was time for poor sweet Jack to have his doggy ACL surgery. We were all super nervous and worried for him, but he did GREAT!

It was also time to get back to work on The Alumni House, and taking care of puppy that needed to be watched 24/7 made for a tiring week. Uncle Dave was in town and we worked hard to keep things moving.

After a busy week of construction we headed out for our family vacation. Hawaii! We were lucky that Jack’s vet was so helpful and made sure that he was well taken care of. We had planned this trip back in February and were really looking forward to getting to spend a week together doing fun things as a family. We were close to canceling once we realized he needed surgery, but the vet assured us he would make sure that Jack was in good hands. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time to relax and then after 5 hours of delays and our flight being within 15 minutes of being cancelled due to the crew timing out, we made it on board and took off. It was a little stressful, but we made it!

I just love Hawaii. I feel so lazy, but it’s also so awesome to just swim, eat, nap and relax! We definitely gave the pool loungers a good work-out! We visited Pearl Harbor, drove around the island to visit BYU Hawaii and the Laie Temple, the Polynesian cultural center, and took Ashley to see Aulani. She was so excited to see it. She and her Disney obsession crack me up.

Our last day Ash got some fun news while hanging around the pool. She is finishing high school a semester early and recently applied for college starting in January. We thought admissions decisions weren’t coming until October, and then she suddenly got an email on friday afternoon telling her that her admission decision had been made. She was convinced that she shouldn’t click on the link because it might be spam, but after a minute of convincing, she opened the link and found out she has been accepted to BYU in the winter.

We are SO thrilled for her. She is such a hard worker and has REALLY wanted to go to school at the Y…especially after seeing how much fun Andy had this last year.

As excited as I am for her, I’m also sad to lose my best friend to hang around with every day. Thank goodness for the Alumni House. 😉

What a month! I can’t even believe we are officially heading into the final stretch of the year today! CRAZY!! Brace yourselves…the holidays are upon us! I honestly feel like time goes fast the older I get.

I hope you have a great weekend!
