Tips for Creating a Welcoming Home this Fall with Walmart

I can hardly believe that it’s the middle of October all ready! Fall is definitely here and prep for the holiday season is in full swing around here. Having my sister and her family staying with us last week for fall break was a good dry-run for more company that will be coming this season. Whenever I’m hosting friends and family I really try to create as easy and welcoming of a place for them to stay as possible. Of course it’s nice to make your guests feel comfortable, but in a kind of selfish way, making them more comfortable tends to make my job as a hostess easier too. 😉

One of the best things you can do for your guests to create a welcoming home is to make everything as accessible to them as possible. That way they don’t feel uncomfortable constantly asking you where to find things. I always tell my guests to make themselves at home and if they can’t find what they are looking for, to feel free to hunt for it. 😉 Before anyone arrives I usually run to and stock the guest bathroom with extra toothbrushes and toothpaste and little necessities that they may have forgotten, as well as useful things like ibuprofen and bandaids.

When it comes to having people stay, keeping them fed is one of the most time consuming projects. I don’t know about you, but spending time with my guests as opposed to being in the kitchen, is high on my priority list. I am NOT an early riser, especially when having house guests usually means fun late nights up chatting. 😉 One of my secrets to hosting guests is creating a breakfast station before I go to bed. That way I know that no matter what time they get up in the morning, they are taken care of even if I’m not up and at ’em yet.

In the OC Ranch Reno I like to use the open shelving in our pantry area right next to the dining nook to set up a spot where my guests can easily find everything they need to fix themselves some breakfast. is a great place to find all the essentials for a great breakfast station. Flatware, napkins, bowls, mugs, storage containers…you name it, the cute Walmart Home products make it easy to put something together that looks fun and pretty, but is also functional.

I love these glass jars. They are perfect for dry goods like cereal. They are also a great place to add things like packets of instant oatmeal, pre-packaged pastries, protein bars, etc.

These cool patterned bowls are generously sized, so they are perfect for all the cereal you can handle.

I added something special to the breakfast station this season…a Keurig K-Cup machine. We aren’t coffee drinkers, but boy do we love hot chocolate! When the weather started to cool down a bit I just felt like it would be the perfect addition to this space. Fortunately has a ton of machines to choose from and more hot chocolate options than I could have even imagined. Did you know that Junior Mints makes hot chocolate pods?! Chocolate and mint is one of my favorite combinations! Other amazing flavored pods include chocolate raspberry, chocolate peanut butter, salted caramel…SO many and I can’t wait to try them all!

A few pretty spoons for cereal and stirring up hot chocolate, these gorgeous fringed napkins and some fresh greens make this little spot in the kitchen happy and welcoming.

Other ideas to add to your breakfast station…

-fruit like apples, orange and bananas

-hot chocolate mix-ins like chocolate chips, peppermint sticks and marshmallows

-bagels, muffins and bread with condiments like butter, jam and peanut butter

-instant oatmeal packets

-protein bars

These are all foods that can be set out the night before and are ready to eat first thing in the morning. It’s super easy for guests to help themselves because everything is in sight and ready to go. Little touches like this not only make your life easier, but really create a welcoming home for your guests.
