12 Bloggers of Christmas with Balsam Hill : Our Farmhouse Christmas Tree

This last year has been such a whirlwind, I can’t even believe it is time for Christmas!  It is so fun to have the contractors finishing up this week literally as the holidays begin.  With so many things in transition over this last six months, this holiday season is a chance for us to really start to make this house feel like a home.  I can’t even explain how excited I was when Balsam Hill reached out to see if I would like to partner with them as one of their 12 Bloggers of Christmas.  I actually don’t know who was more excited…me or Ash.  Ash LOVES the Hallmark channel and sees Balsam Hill advertised and talked about there all the time.  She knows they are huge supporters of all of her favorite Christmas movies.  It pretty much made me a rock star in her eyes.  Mom points for sure! 🙂

I am over the moon excited to have a beautiful new Christmas tree to celebrate our first Christmas in our new house.  You see, our old tree was going to be on it’s 21st Christmas!  It was the tree we bought the first Christmas we were married, on our student budget.  It has served us very well, but the branches have started breaking off and it was time for it to go.

I felt like a kid in a candy store browsing through the Balsam Hill website and picking out the perfect tree and trims for our family room.  When this gorgeous Balsam Hill Fir showed up on my doorstep I couldn’t wait to open it up.  I’m sure my new neighbors thought I was the crazy Christmas lady, but I just couldn’t wait!

I chose the 7.5 foot BH Balsam Fir because of it’s shape and the thick beautiful branches.  They are so life-like, it’s really incredible.

Everything comes so neatly packaged with detailed instructions for assembly.  It also includes storage bags and even gloves for helping to protect your hands while you shape your branches.  So thoughtful!  I am usually in some old ugly work gloves from the garage. 😉  Having a pre-lit tree is SUCH a treat!  I was amazed that all I had to do was put the tree together and it was already connected to just be plugged in and light up.  Wow!  No more wrestling with tangled cords of lights!

I usually go with a less-formal tree in the family room, and with the new style of this house, knowing that there was a perfect spot for the tree right up against the ship lap wall, I decided to go with the Farmhouse Ornament Set.  I love that it has fun plaids and incorporates a gorgeous shade of red and lots of blues.  You all know how I feel about blue. 😉  With a 7.5 foot tree, it’s a good idea to plan on using two sets of the same ornaments, mixed in with other favorites.  One of the other things that drew me to the Farmhouse Ornaments is the darling Mixed Materials set you can order to pair with the more traditional ornaments.  The cute little elements like ice skates, sleds, snowshoes and pinecones add an extra fun and whimsical feel to the tree.  I added the antique snowflakes to bring in more vintage Christmas charm.

Something new for me this year was adding picks to my tree.  Have you used them before?  I had not, but I saw these beautiful navy blue magnolias and thought they would really bring the blue out in all of the other ornaments.  Boy did they!  They are STUNNING and my new favorite thing to use to dress up a tree!  I added a few of these fun iced glitter twig picks too.  They add just the perfect amount of sparkle to the branches and compliment the Farmhouse Ornaments perfectly.

To keep with the more rustic, farmhouse feel, I opted for this cute charcoal gray rustic wood rolling tree stand.  I love that it doubles as a planter during the off-season.  Genius!  To me it makes the tree look even MORE realistic (if that’s even possible) because it looks like it just came in from the tree farm and we haven’t taken it out of it’s crate yet to plant it.

Oh how I love the glow of this beautiful tree lighting up the family room each night!  It finally feels like we have a home! 🙂
