I’m so excited to be heading to Alt Summit today in sunny Palm Springs, but I have to say part of me wishes I could just stay home and snuggle my babies. January has been a super wild, fun and emotionally draining month. Between trips to NYC for an amazing, dream meeting with HomeGoods, (more on that coming soon) a house hunting trip to Utah, and now Alt, there have definitely been some extreme highs and lows. Making the decision to accept a job out of state and move the family to Utah in a few months has not come without a lot of sleepless nights and many, many tears. I don’t know why I am feeling so overwhelmed and sad, but it is taking over my life a little bit lately. Have you moved many times in your life? Other than moving away to college for a few years, (too many years ago to remember 😉 ) I have managed to stay with my feet firmly planted in Southern California. The weather, having my extended family close by, and living in a beautiful neighborhood have definitely spoiled me. I’m trying to count my blessings and be cheerful for the kids, but to be quite honest, I am a little terrified of uprooting our lives and moving away from everything I know and love and my entire support network that I have spent the last 15 years building. Any advice from those of you that have done this before would be very much welcomed!
Ok, not to sound too much like Debbie Downer, one major perk of moving…getting to dream up a new house and walk through as many model homes as possible- all with a good excuse. 😉 I love a project, and having a new one in front of me, a place to channel all of this nervous energy, is definitely a good thing! Here are a few of the beauties I spent the week checking out:
The woodwork in this home was amazing! And those herringbone floors! All the heart eyes!
This beauty is amazing…but I am hoping for a 2-story house, so I checked it off the list.
I loved the exterior on this one, but the floor plan wasn’t my favorite.
This amazing home wasn’t for sale, but I made my kind realtor stop anyways so I could take a picture. 😉 Good thing he’s such a good sport. 😉 I’ll be filing this one away for a future dream house!
I have to admit, the weather may have something to do with why I am not overly excited to move right now. 😉
Thank heavens for a new, warm coat. It is SO cold there!!! And now for the real contender. We are about 80% certain that we want this one to be ours. A few things have to work out with lots and such, but I think this may be the one. It feels weird to say that!
Here are a few shots of the model that I snapped with my phone, so not the best, but you get the idea. 🙂
So, what do you think? I’d love to hear any advice you have on building a home, moving, working through anxiety about moving…you name it. I will take all of the advice I can get! 😉
I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday!
Tammy
That is a gorgeous home! I can only imagine how stressful it must be to move your family so far away, and to a place that is totally different from where you currently live. All the homes you pictured are gorgeous, though. And I look forward to seeing how this journey turns out for you. Best wishes, and have fun at Alt! (So wish I was going)
Thank you for your sweet comment Leslie. This is a super stressful time, but the fun new house does help take away some of the sting of moving away from family and friends. I hope to meet you at a fun conference like Alt someday soon! 🙂 Are you going to SNAP by any chance?
