It’s almost time to celebrate the New Year! Woohoo! I don’t know about you guys, but our New Year’s parties always involve the kiddos. It’s fun and crazy, and I can’t think of any other way I’d rather usher in a new year than with all the people I love the most. This year I teamed up with Oriental Trading Company to put together a fun family friendly New Year’s Eve party idea. I love that this can be used for New Year’s Eve or for Noon Year’s Eve…depending on just how little the little ones are and how late everyone is going to stay up. 😉
When it comes to new year’s eve parties, I know this time of year everyone can feel a little tired and partied out, so this family New Year’s Eve party idea is super easy to put together and a breeze to clean up. How does that sound? You don’t even have to cook if you don’t want to…how’s that for awesome? 😉
I know that traditional New Year’s Eve party decor is black, silver and gold, but I wanted to do something more colorful and fun, so I used these cute party fans to kind of build the rest of the decor off of. When you find one party item you love, it makes it easy to build the rest of the party off of those colors. I bought lots of other fun decor in red, yellow, sky blue, light pink, dark pink and mint green.
Honeycomb balls in assorted colors and sizes make super easy and fun looking decor. Bonus…they are fairly bulky in the sense that they take up lots of visual space…so you don’t need too many to make a big impact. I couldn’t find honeycomb balls in mint green, so I threw a few mint and white striped paper lanterns into the mix. I like the fun addition of the stripes to the overall look.
To make for easy clean up I went with paper plates and napkins as well as plastic silverware and paper straws. I wanted to add something a little fun and more colorful under each of the plates, so I popped a piece of 12×12 cardstock under each place setting in a coordinating, but contrasting color. Did you know they make GOLD plastic flatware now?! LOVE!! The fringed napkins with contrasting trim are too fun!
I ordered these cute 2020 glow in the dark glasses and tiny party hats and placed one on top of each plate too. I actually found a lot of this decor that I used for New Year’s in the graduation section of the store too, so be sure to check there as well for even more options!
I wanted to use stars in the decor too, so I bought a few fun star things to add like these cute gold glitter star headbands and gold glitter star garlands.
The pom pom garlands I had lying around…you can make your own here with this easy tutorial to match any color scheme or occasion.
The food for this party is SO easy! It’s all breakfast food. You can make it as complicated or as easy as you want. I went with a simple cereal and donut bar with some fruit and juice. The colorful cereals and sprinkled donuts add to the super colorful and fun overall feel of this table. I mean, who doesn’t love to see piles of donuts?! 😉
You can use any type of clear container you have to hold the cereal. All the color makes it part of the decor as well as something fun to eat.
These donut stands are the COOLEST! They are super easy to store and clean and look awesome!
I added my milk and juice to these fun bottles I found at HomeGoods (these would be so cute too!) just as an added touch. Not necessary, but it sure makes things look even cuter!
An assortment of fun colored cereal bowls is another fun addition to the table. I have these in tons of colors and LOVE them!
I hope that this fun family New Year’s Eve party idea is one that you can use and enjoy! The best part about this party is if you remove the 2020 specific stuff, you can use this as an adorable kid’s birthday party idea too!
