Getting Ready for NYC In The Winter

I am so excited to be heading back to my favorite city later this month, but boy, it is going to be cold!  I have been to NYC in the winter before (well, technically I guess it was still fall, but it was December and the 18 degree temps sure made it feel like winter. 😉 )  I don’t really have any winter gear, but with the upcoming move to Utah, I decided that it is time to break down and buy some cute things to take with me.  Retail therapy always makes me feel better when I am stressing about things…and let me tell you, I am STRESSING about this move!  Fortunately, there are tons of great sales on all things winter this weekend/month, and so I scored some great deals.  Hopefully you will find some things you love too for a steal! I’ve included affiliate links for your shopping convenience.

First stop…a serious coat.  I already have a packable down coat similar to this one that I LOVE.  It is SO comfy and warm, super lightweight and can literally fit in my purse.  It folds down completely into one of it’s own pockets.  Amazing!  I bought them for everyone in the family when we headed to Europe to take us through 3 months of very varied climates and they were wonderful.  You can layer a long sleeve shirt and a light sweater under it for extra warmth, but it is very warm on it’s own.  I have been feeling like I need something even a bit longer and heavier for actually living in the snow, and with winter sales that are so awesome this weekend, for about $140…original price…$275!  It should be great for New York when I’m walking around all day in freezing temps.  This weekend is absolutely the best time to pick up anything winter related (think sweaters, ski gear, boots, jackets, etc.) that you have been wanting…or may need for next winter. (I always try to think ahead so I can buy on sale!)

I wanted some cute sweaters to layer under my coats so that when I get inside I can take off my coat, still be warm, but have something cute on.  Here’s what I picked up yesterday:

I have had that on my list for awhile, and now it’s on sale…so BAM! Into my basket it went! 😉 I love the …pale pink is everywhere right now, and …all the heart eyes. The embroidery is on the lower back of the sweater too. It’s a new item, but this weekend it’s on sale for 40% off. Score! And I AWLAYS love a sweater coat. So I picked up and a (30% off your entire order this weekend) to add to the black and gray ones I already own. I seriously feel like I’m wearing a snuggie out of the house whenever I wear one of these. 😉

I picked up a couple of tops too…one can never have too many if you ask me. 😉

As you already know, I LOVE a soft, new white tee…and plus 60% off.  😉  Perfect for layering or wearing on it’s own because it’s thick enough that I don’t have to layer anything underneath it to keep it from being obscene. (Why are all the white tees so sheer these days?!)  I LOVE the pattern on .  I am usually a plain or striped top kind of girl, and I tend to shy away from wearing too much color, but I seriously love this pattern.  I even bought Ash a matching dress because I love it so much!  I also think the cut is flattering and fun and flirty.  The three most important f’s. lol!  Remember the “I usually wear stripes” comment? 😉  Well, this cute little striped number was added to my collection too.  I picked up this tunic top and I’m going to pair it with my new blue sweater and I think it will be perfect for Alt in Palm Springs later this month.

I need you opinion on .  I picked one up, and I’m thinking that I’ll wear it with some pants that I have that are similar to these, with these strappy heels I bought for the Better Homes and Gardens StyleMaker Event last September, to an upcoming work dinner.  Thoughts?  I always feel most comfortable in uncomfortable situations (pretty much any time I am on my own, meeting new people) wearing black and being a bit understated.  I like the bit of interest that the shirt adds with the slightly textured tulips…but I’m on the fence.  Maybe cute…maybe not..what do you think?

I needed some weather proof shoes for all of these upcoming trips to cold weather places and the big move.  How cute are these?

I was going to go with all black, but I decided to be a bit adventurous and get something fun.  I figure I’ll be picking up a few pairs over the next year or so when we move.  I looked at a TON of reviews for weather proof boots and settled on these due to the fact that they are light weight, not clunky AT ALL, warm…with plenty of room to add wool socks as well, and very comfortable.  I need something comfortable since I am doing a walking tour in NYC and it is supposed to rain that day. They are on sale this weekend too…so woohoo!

Finally, Santa must have thought I was pretty goo this year, because I got my favorite bag of late. .  I helped Santa find it for 15% off by purchasing it and signing up for the email list to get a coupon code. 😉  I always love a deal!  So, it will be coming to NYC with me too.  If you’re in the market for a new bag, Kate Spade always has a great sale on this weekend every year too.  You can get all her sale items for an extra 25% off with code CLINK.  I have purchased several of her bags for a great deal on MLK weekend.  A few of my favorites were originally over $500 and I picked them up for less than$150.  Deal!

If you’re in the “refresh my home” mode, there are a few great sales not to be missed this weekend too:

Pottery Barn : 20% off your entire regular priced purchase (awesome deal!) with code SAVEBIG

West Elm : 25% off almost everything

Serena and Lily : 20% off all bedding, beds and cribs with code TIMETODREAM They have some really pretty new quilts!

: up to 70% off on a TON of stuff over the long weekend

I hope you have a great weekend and shop til you drop with these great deals!

Happy shopping!

  1. So many great items in this list. That coat looks incredible – especially if you’re able to fit it in your purse! Though, I do love my Columbia gear for winter. The duck boots are adorable, though you might want something taller in the snow. Hope the retail therapy helped with your stress at least a little bit!

    • So, I learned the hard way on this trip that I definitely do need something even taller for the snow! 😉 The duck boots were great though for 99% of what I needed. 🙂 That packable puffer is the best!
