Summer Guest Room Design Ideas

It’s hard to believe that we are heading into the last month of summer before school starts up again…or at least some sort of school. This has been such an odd year. It’s practically felt like we have been on summer break since March…and yet all of our plans are on hold or have been cancelled. We’ve been making the best of it, as I’m sure you all have been, by putting a twist on traditional summer activities. Our backyard has become an escape, our cars have become recreational vehicles and we have been making more use of the great outdoors than ever before. Family time has been such a blessing in all of this chaos. All this time at home, and the opportunity to entertain family has me concentrating on home projects…especially our guest room design ideas. Grandma and Grandpa are coming for a visit, and it’s time to whip this room into shape! 🙂

When my friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life invited me to participate in her fun Summer bedroom tour, I thought YES! That will motivate me to get moving on things! 😉 If you are coming over from Andrea’s gorgeous home, welcome! I love her beautiful coastal style. Her home is total eye candy. I am excited to share the beginnings of our guest room design ideas with you. A few weeks ago I shared this post about put together this design board that I put together for the guest room design.

Well, I’m excited to say that things are starting to come together and I’m pretty excited about it! 🙂

When I remodeled this house, I created what was a kid’s bedroom and a second, shared hallway bath, into a large guest room and ensuite bath. I knew that moving far away from family and friends, we would put it to good use, and sure enough, it has been one of the most used spaces in this home. It’s also been one of the last to get some attention. 😉

I bought this bed a bit ago, a these nightstands a few months ago, so I had the basics for the room.

My big purchase for this summer was this fabulous blue dresser. I have been in love with it for quite some time, and finally found the perfect spot for it. 🙂

With the furniture mostly in place (minus a few smaller items) I am ready to really get this place decorated! Pillows are my weakness and they are ALWAYS changing in the house. I move them from room to room and add a few new ones in here and there…so this room will always be changing a bit, but for summer I knew I wanted something bright and fun and the combination of yellow and blue was calling me!

I always try to make sure that my guest rooms have everything a guest needs to be comfortable. I like to think of my favorite hotels and what makes me love them, and then recreate it in my own guest rooms. I love a good throw on the end of the bed because it adds color and pattern, and it works as an additional blanket if guests find themselves getting chilly in the middle of the night.

I still have a long way to go with this room…art, some mirrors, this amazing rug, drapes, a comfy chair and a few other decor pieces, but I think we’re off to a good start, what do you think? 🙂
