I don’t know about in your house, but in ours, the computer is front and center in the middle of all the action. I’ve shown you our office nook up in our bedroom, but this one is where the computer is and where most of the “real” work happens. When we moved into our house many years ago, I knew that at some point I was going to have teenagers that wanted or needed to be on the computer frequently. I also knew, that with all the negative influences out there on the internet, that I wanted the computer to be in a very visible, public place. We don’t have a large home, and there wasn’t an office downstairs, or even a place for a desk, so I improvised and created a family room office nook in a small space in our home. 😉 We did have a large media niche, so I set about designing a built-in that would house our TV, some storage, and act as a family room office nook that could all be folded up and put away neatly when we had company. 🙂 I have loved having it right in the family room because when I am spending hours on the computer curating blog posts and editing pictures, I am still right in the middle of all the action with my kiddos. Now that the kids are older and doing more school work on the computer, it’s also convenient to have it where I am working on making dinner etc., making it much easier for me to help out. 🙂
So how does it work? This drawer that you see slides out, and the front of it flips down so you can type easily. The cabinet doors open and fold back into the cabinet making it flush with the rest of the unit. The cabinet below fits our printer, paper, etc. The shelves up above hold a few neat decorative boxes that hold CDs and office supplies. When we’re done using it, the drawer slides back in, the cabinet doors close and it’s out of sight. Love it!
I love this chair from HomeGoods, which is super comfortable for sitting for a long time while working, and looks super cute in the family room as a stand alone chair when the office is packed away. 🙂
If you are looking for a way to incorporate an office space into your home, I hope this inspires you and lets you see that you can make it work! 🙂

All products featured are items I am truly a fan of…places that I would shop, eat, and visit regardless of my affiliations with them. Thanks to the support of these sponsors, I am able to do what I love, and continue to share my tips and ideas with you!
