Summer Home Tour : Our Summer Bedroom Design

School’s out for SUMMER! Woohoo! Welcome to our Summer Home Decor Tour! I love teaming up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life and participating in her fun home tours each season. She is such a great hostess and I really enjoy seeing how everyone switches up their decor for the season. If you are new to my blog or joining me from Cristina’s beautiful summer home decor tour over at Remodelandolacasa, welcome! It’s a pleasure to have you here.  Summer home decor in our house is all about designing a space that feels light and breezy, and is easy to keep clean with messy teenagers home all day. My bedroom is always a favorite spot for the kids to lay around and watch TV. Do your kids do that? We don’t let them have TVs in their rooms, so they find their way to mine…which means my bed is rarely made. Doing a home tour is a great excuse to actually make my room look the way I’d love for it to look every day. 😉 I hope you enjoy seeing our summer bedroom design. I’ll share a few other sneak peeks of projects that are underway this season and hopefully wrapping up soon!

summer bedroom designI swapped out the rug in here. I originally ordered this one, and I still love it, but it just wasn’t right for this room. It needed something lighter and more neutral. You can see what this bedroom looked like with the old rug here.

I mixed and matched these nightstands and this dresser, with the farmhouse bed in black. The nightstands are quite large, so these lamps were the perfect fit to add height next to the bed.

A few inexpensive straw hats from Target are a quick and easy update to the wall over the TV for the summer…and I can use them for the beach too! 😉

This desk was one of my first purchases for this room. I am a sucker for cane furniture and I loved the combination with the black desk. It really ties all the other furniture pieces together.

We don’t have a dedicated office in this house, it’s a small single family  home, so I like to make as many of the rooms in this place as multi-functional as possible. This task lamp, a cute chair and a couple of cute pillows dress things up a little bit without breaking the bank. I LOVE this tree. I’m pretty particular about my faux plants and this one is quite realistic looking.

We spend a lot of our time during the summer traveling and spending days at the beach. I always love to work these two things that we love into any room I design. Artwork that includes maps of places we have traveled together and paintings of some of our favorite places are a couple of my favorite things to decorate with.

Etsy is my favorite place to find these original paintings. They are not super expensive and REAL paintings are just so awesome to have!

I wanted the summer colors in here to be very coastal so blue was a no brainer. I just love the calming effect it has on everyone. I just added blue pillows, the blue ocean painting (a lucky HomeGoods find!), and lots of white and light accessories to lighten up that dark bed.

Ok…so a couple of other projects that are in the works and I can’t wait to share in a little bit! The yard is getting a refresh! We had some drainage issues and other things that needed to be fixed…so here we go!

I have been hesitant to commit to anything, but this past week I had 2 bathrooms wallpapered and BAM! I am obsessed! Here’s a sneak peek at one of them….

  1. Love your bedroom. Such a warm and inviting space. I really like how you mix and match furniture and piece to create such an inviting and interesting room. Having room for a small office is a bonus too. Can’t wait to see more of your landscaping and the bathroom makeovers. Thanks tons for joining the tours again this season, your home is always filled with tons of inspiration.

  5. Tammy, your bedroom is so light and airy, the perfect summer retreat! Your faux plants are the most real ones I’ve seen in a long time. And hey, I can’t wait to see more of the yard, that’s a pretty fountain.

  6. What a tranquil bedroom, Tammy. I’ve been eyeing those little Japanese benches; I’m hoping to find something similar over here in Europe. I love the sneak peek at the bathroom–and the fountain! Who knew that wallpaper would come back and that it would be even better than before? Happy Summer!

  7. Such a beautiful, relaxing retreat! I’ve been looking for a desk just like that but looks like they don’t have it available in Canada. 🙁 I hope you have a wonderful summer and enjoy your outdoor space once it’s done. Can’t wait to see what you do!
