Week In Review

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend. It has been a busy few weeks around here. Moving Andy into his dorm, school starting for both kids, parent orientations, company, home projects and more. The last couple of days I’ve been taking care of a sick kiddo…and now that second one just went down this morning. That means our planned trip to DC tomorrow is off. So sad. I bought the tickets back at the beginning of April and had been looking forward to this for months…but, life happens and oh, well! I’m happy to be able to take care of my babies. Here’s a little of what  we’ve been up to this last week.

Ever since we came back here at the beginning of August we have basically been living at the Alumni House. Ever since Andy was applying to schools a few years ago, I have felt like we needed to get a little place here that we could have for the kids to live in while they are in school. This little duplex popped up a few months ago and I knew it was the one. We have a cute couple that lives in the basement apartment and we have been LOVING staying upstairs. I had NO idea how much we would love using this place, but so far it has been such a blast!

I have been very adamant about not wanting to get in the way of Andy having a college experience by being right down the street all the time, but it’s been fun to see how much he and his roommates and friends like to come hang out here too. It’s great to do Sunday dinners and football parties and Ash loves having so many of her friends from CA right down the street. We run into them all over the place and she loves it. She’s dying to be a college student too!

Being right in the middle of it all has enabled us to go to all the sporting events and devotionals on campus and to utilize all of the fun things that go on in a college town. It’s more urban living so we get to walk to grab dinner and shop and go to the Farmer’s Market. So much fun! We have a favorite spot that we love to walk over for brunch on Saturdays. It is SO yummy!!

Spending time here has given me a greater perspective on what I really want to do to the place to as we renovate it. To see how we actually use the space has been super helpful. I’ve been painting swatches all over the place and getting flooring and window and other quotes. It’s going to be a fun one!

A major benefit is having this cute boy call us for an impromptu visit. After not getting to see him at all for the last two years, I am loving those spontaneous sightings! 😉

One of the fun things about having a house that is 100 years old is getting to do all kinds of projects. I had never power washed anything before in my life, but after seeing all the peeling paint, filthy concrete and brickwork that had stains all over it, I knew a power washer was a necessity. I am hooked!!! This is the power washer I have and WOW!! If you are looking for a new hobby that is extremely addicting, get yourself one! lol! Look at what it did to the concrete steps out front…

I literally could not believe my eyes!!

I’m trying to hold off on decorating the house until we have the renovation completed, but the more we are using it, the more it needs a few things here and there. Here are a couple of things I’ve ordered…

Lots of blue going into this house to stick to the Cougar Blue traditions around here. This rug is so pretty. I bought the runner size. This art is SUCH a great price…only $60 for a 3’x3′ piece! It’s not museum quality or anything, but perfect to dress up the wall without spending a fortune!

The house had previously been used as a fully furnished rental, so we have all the old furniture, but it needs a few things…especially since we are having more guests now than ever! 😉 We’ve had more guests here in the last few weeks than in all the years that we’ve lived in SLC. Kind of funny!

On Saturday night we walked over to the football game. It was a nail biter!! Went into double overtime but we managed to pull out a win. Amazing. The Cougs always like to keep things exciting. 😉

I can’t believe that spooky season is upon us. I got to do a shoot for Ashley’s Halloween cupcakes this year and they are SO cute!!

Be sure to watch her IG account for more fun from @tinybirdbakeshop  It is so fun to watch her build her little business. She is such a hard worker and loves it so much.

Well, now duty calls and I have lunch to make for two sickies! I’m sad I won’t be sharing content this week of all the fun I had planned in DC…I’m was really looking forward to new restaurants and seeing the sites, and not to mention, getting to stay in the gorgeous new Waldorf Astoria that just opened. Another time!

Have a great week!
