Wrapping up Summer and Back to School

It has been a long time since I took the chance on the blog to just write about life.  I started this little blog 10 years ago next month…can you believe that?  I can’t!  While it’s changed names a few times and evolved with me as I have grown up, I want to get back to it’s roots a little and spend a little more time around here enjoying writing about real-life, family stuff.  I hope that is ok with you. 🙂

This was the shortest summer on record and I’m not sure how to deal with it.  I feel like we got a little bit robbed, actually!  With just under 8 weeks of summer fun, we crammed in lots of relaxation.  Did you guys go anywhere fun this summer?  It was a summer of transition for us.  Job changes kept us planted this summer, which is really unusual for us and felt very strange, but I guess after being gone for 3 months last summer, I pretty much got a lifetime of vacations all at once, so looks like I’m staying home for the rest of my life. 😉 When the alarms went off yesterday morning I definitely wasn’t ready to face the day and the start of the school year! 😉

I was lucky enough to tag along on a work trip…to the ADELE concert!!  I felt like I won the lottery when I got a call from John the day before the concert letting me know spouses were invited.  WooHoo!!  You guys, she was AMAZING!  She sounded JUST like she does on the radio and she was SUPER engaging with the audience.  I love the chance to sneak away with John…especially on a weeknight.  It felt like we were getting away with something.  I haven’t seen him a ton since he started his new job…he’s been working crazy hours, so it was a fun night for both of us!

We also took the last week of summer as a chance to meet up with some dear friends.  We met this fun family Home Schooling and they are just so wonderful, I wish we could spend more time with them.  A Hello Kitty pop-up Cafe opened up at a nearby mall, so of course we had to take our cute girls to pick up some overpriced treats and adorable bottles of water that were shaped like Hello Kitty bows.  I’m such a sucker for packaging!! lol!

Pillows have been arriving and I couldn’t be more excited!  The living room is starting to take shape and I’m LOVING the color!  I really wanted to go pink and navy a few years ago, but I was kind of a wimp and didn’t do it.  Then, I stumbled on this painting a few months ago at HomeGoods and I knew it was meant to be!  Now I am looking at fabric for drapes…we’ll see…I’ve always been a commitment phobe when it comes to window covering. eek!  I might be turning over a new leaf!

When I started this blog years ago, it was because of my photography.  It is pretty rare that I do an actual photo shoot these days…I’m just not really a director, so I never felt super comfortable telling people what to do, how to pose etc., so I gave up taking pictures of people and started taking pictures of stuff, which I actually love because I can just move it around without having to direct it. 😉  But, on occasion a super cutie just needs her pictures taken for a special baptism or birthday and well, I just can’t say no. 😉  So this weekend I got to snap a few pictures of this adorable girl…

The heat is upon us! August, September and October and always the hottest months of the year around here (here’s a secret: October is the best month for the beach…) so it feels weird to go back to school right when things are heating up.  Temps hit three digits this weekend which is HOT for us right by the beach, so we did our best to escape it and enjoy one more beach day before the school year hit.  Oh how I love my peeps!

And finally the dreaded day arrived.  We headed off to school bright and early yesterday morning.  So early in fact that I had to take the obligatory first day of school pictures AFTER school this year. 😉 I love this bright, smart, funny boy and I can’t believe that he is a Freshman this year.  It makes me sad to watch him grow up and excited all at the same time.  I love the special relationship we have and that he still wants to share everything with me everyday.  I hope that never changes.  He was a good sport for my silly pictures…

Thank you for letting me share a little bit about our everyday life here.  I do like to have a little record and I hope you get to know me a little better this way! 🙂

Have a great week!
