This primary bath remodel project was a fun one! Over the years this bathroom had gone through a couple of minor remodels with new flooring and countertops, a new mirror and a few other cosmetic changes, but once the floor had to come out, it was just going to be so messy and cause problems with the existing cabinets so those had to come out and then, well, you know how it goes…it snowballs and suddenly you are remodeling the whole bathroom.
When I say it was messy to take out the bathroom…I mean messy! It’s always at about this point in any project that I start to feel a teeny bit of panic…like there’s no going back now! 😉
Let’s take a look at what we started with…
We had one of those built in massive tubs with a stand alone shower next to it that both hadn’t been touched since we moved in 20 years ago.
We didn’t have room to really move anything around and change the floor plan, but just freeing that tub from it’s tile surround felt pretty good! 😉
I paired a 2” hexagon mosaic tile on the floor and in the shower niche…and covered the whole floor of the shower and under the tub with it. It transitioned seamlessly into the wood floors in the rest of the bathroom and looks really pretty.
I love finding a way to make things look pretty without breaking the bank. I added 12×24 porcelain marble-look tile from Floor and Decor all over the back wall of the bathroom. Each of those 12×24 tiles was under $2.00. Whoa! Such a deal!
Custom cabinets are SO expensive and in this house I wanted to keep things within the insurance budget as best as possible to keep costs down. IKEA cabinets with Semi-Handmade fronts were the perfect solution.
The one problem with doing a bathroom with IKEA cabinets…they don’t make bathroom cabinets, which are typically about 3 inches narrower than kitchen cabinets. Fortunately in this bathroom we had enough space to use the 24” boxes so it worked out really well.
I added some quartz countertops from Arizona Tile to dress up the cabinets. White quartz with a little movement from some gray veining.
The stand alone tub is small…because we just don’t have a ton of space, but it doesn’t really bother us because we don’t use it. Not that I can’t fit in it, it’s just not a massive, “hang out in the tub for hours” kind of soaking tub. And…we’re just not bath people. It’s perfect for kids though!
I went with all black fixtures in here and I love the contrast against everything else that’s so light and bright.
Some new mirrors, lighting and fixtures and it was complete! I love looking at this new space. It just feels so fresh and clean!
I added a few beachy accessories to go with the rest of the house and bathroom.
This view from the primary bedroom is SO much better now!
I found this perfect little art piece at HomeGoods. It’s my favorite when I find something that truly feels one-of-a-kind there and this watercolor painting definitely feels like that.
You know I can’t resist a good eucalyptus arrangement anywhere! 😉
I love that beachy feeling light above the tub. The perfect finishing touch to warm things up a bit in that corner.
Not a bad refresh, right? I feel like we can face the next 20 years now with this new primary bathroom!
