I love to travel and explore the world with my family. Nothing makes me happier than planning and preparing for a new adventure. When we headed to Europe for the summer I wanted to make sure that we all stayed as healthy as possible so we could enjoy our time together. I was happy to find as we traveled for such an extended period that much of the travel industry is trying to help make travel a healthier, happier experience for everyone. With amenities at airports like stress free lounges and yoga rooms, and great programs at hotels like Swissôtel, offering in-room exercise cards, local jogging maps and healthy cuisine, there is definitely a movement towards health and wellness everywhere.
Traveling often means disruption in your normal schedule, long periods of inactivity, using lots of public transportation, decreased sleep, eating less healthily and an increased amount of stress. With this new movement to health and wellness in travel you have the tools to help you feel good, stay healthy and thrive no matter where you are traveling.
One of my favorite things about visiting Europe was the chance to get out and walk everywhere. We hiked trails in the Swiss Alps, swam in amazing mountain lakes, climbed to the top of clock towers, and canvased cities on foot. Your lifestyle on vacation may be worlds away from ordinary life, but that doesn’t mean you have to fall out of your healthy routine.
Healthy eating can be a little bit more of a challenge when you are exploring world cuisines…especially when the place you are visiting is known for its pastries, or gelato or chocolates, as were many of the places we visited. Hotel cuisine is moving in a healthier direction too, which is great news! What you are fueling your body with makes such a difference in how you feel while on the road and how your body adapts to the changes in climate, time zones and sleep changes. Juicing is something I was introduced to while traveling a few months ago when my friend insisted I try her juicing regimen and see the difference in the way I felt each day. Needless to say, I was hooked.
Swissotel recently published a juicing recipe guide of special juices that are available at their hotels around the world, with interesting recipes designed to help with any kind of ailment you may suffer during different seasons while out traveling. Muscle aches, cold and flu, sunburn…these new Vitality drinks have you covered to help you stay healthy and ready to explore while on the road, but with their recipe guide you can make them at home too! I whipped up the watermelon, tomato and lemon juice recipe on the guide designed to help reduce the impact of the sun’s harmful rays on your skin. Living in southern California we are always trying to protect ourselves from the sun. Now I can be lathered up with sunscreen and filled with yummy juice, and be protected from the inside out. 😉
I love that Swissôtel is committed to helping their guests stay healthy and fit by making it easy to incorporate fresh fruits, veggies and exercise into your routine. An array of new amenities at their properties worldwide are available for travelers of all ages and tastes, and help you to take care of yourself while you’re away from home—no matter how often you may travel. You can connect with Swissotel on their social channels Facebook | Instagram | Twitter . I hope that you consider your health and wellness as you book your travel plans for the summer. Make sure to plan for opportunities to relax, get plenty of sleep and even throw in some exercise while you are out and about. Carry healthy snacks for those times when you are hungry and can’t find food right away. Most importantly HAVE FUN and take lots of pictures! 😉
Happy Travels!
