Hello! So happy to have you here as part of Marty’s spring home tour. I hope you are enjoying all of the beautiful homes this week. If you’re new here and visiting from Kathy’s gorgeous tour over at Up to Date Interiors, welcome! It’s really amazing what some longer days and slightly warmer temps (meaning the snow melts in 24 hours instead of never here in UT) can do for your mood! I just love seeing the buds starting to appear on the branches of trees and bushes…even if they are covered in snowflakes. It all helps to get me out of my winter slump and makes me want to start some new projects. I always look forward to this home tour in particular because once it’s here, I know I’ve made it! Spring has sprung! 😉 I am waiting on a few more things to update a few other spaces in the house, so I decided at the last minute to give Ashley’s room a little refresh to usher in spring. I hope you love these new touches!
It doesn’t take much a lot of times to breathe a bit of new life into a room. We created this room for Ashley about 4 years ago, when she was a brand new teenager.
Recently she started mentioning that she might like to update it just a bit so that it would feel a little more grown up.
It’s not always in the budget to make big changes all the time, so we went shopping in one of my favorite places when I want to give something a little mini makeover…the rest of the house. 😉
All of the big pieces in her room stayed put. The dresser, chest, desk and bed are going to be with her for a long time, so I hope she likes them. lol! 😉 She also wanted to keep the blushy pink as the main color, because she will always love pink…she just wanted it to feel older. Enter the blue. This artwork from HomeGoods has been in her room for the last few years, so it made it easy to keep it and bring in more blue tones.

I did invest in some new pillows. I am a total sucker for fabric and if you know me, you know that I LOVE pillows. I feel like they are the easiest way to completely transform the look of a room. Etsy is usually my go-to for pretty pillows and these were no exception. I added a couple of oatmeal linen shams to the bed in order to ground everything a little bit.

Bringing in all of the soft blues I could round up included this chair from a table set we used to have in our home before we moved to Utah. I love the curved lines and the soft French blue color. I changed out the blush pink quilt at the end of her bed for a white textured duvet that used to be in a guest bedroom. The all white bedding really makes the room feel fresh and ready for the change of seasons.
The desk and dresser in her room were more cluttered with younger looking accessories. Decluttering made a huge difference and simplifying the accessories also made a big change. I did purchase this art from Target for this spot to replace some other pictures that were there previously. I also added a couple of blue ottomans for friends to sit on when they hang out in her room and brought in a faux olive tree.

I’m really happy with the way things turned out. It feels fresh and fun and more sophisticated for her last couple of years at home. She can be a tough client 😉 but I always know I’ve done a good job when she walks in and says…”ooh! I love this!! Do I get to keep it this way?!” Spoken like a true child of a designer that is always moving things around! lol!
I hope you are feeling inspired to shop your current space and do some mini make-overs!
