If you’re looking for a little dose of southern charm, put Charleston South Carolina on your list of places to visit. John and I try and take a little time each year to get away and do something fun together. Thank heavens for amazing grandparents who are willing to spend some quality time with their grand kids and give us a chance to escape for a bit! Charleston had been on our radar for awhile and we were really looking for a different experience…a place in the US that we could visit and would really feel like we were experiencing something new. We researched for a while about the best Charleston restaurants, the best hotels in Charleston, things to do in Charleston SC, and without fail, our searches kept coming back pointing to it being one of the best and romantic vacation destinations in the country. This charming city did not disappoint! We were on the hunt for the best place to stay in Charleston when the Restoration on King popped up on our radar. Affiliate links are included in this post.
We knew that we wanted to be on or near King Street. There are several luxury hotels in Charleston SC, but being in the heart of it all was important to us. We wanted shopping, restaurants and sites to see all within walking distance. When we were researching for places to stay we stumbled upon two places that looked amazing The Charleston Place Hotel and The Restoration on King. Situated in an old building that has been lovingly restored The Restoration on King is an all suite boutique hotel that offers every amenity you can imagine. Very large condo style rooms have views of King Street below, and the rooftop deck offers sweeping views of all of Charleston. The fact that it was in a refurbished old building sold me! We enjoyed a beautiful stay there.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite in the Restoration Hotel with gorgeous exposed brick walls, a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a butcher block island, a fully equipped living room, marble bathroom with double sinks and a king sized bedroom. We also had a washer and dryer in the unit.
It was the BEST location with plenty of dining (both casual and fine dining) right out the front door. Charleston in May is dreamy with perfect weather! That made being outside all the time and taking advantage of all the shopping that is at your fingertips just outside the doors of the Restoration on King so nice! Other fun Charleston attractions like Broad Street a quick walk around the corner.
Evening Happy Hour and breakfast baskets delivered to your door each morning are extra touches that make you feel like you are staying with friends.
While we stayed just as a couple, we will definitely be back with the kids. The Restoration on King offers up to 3 bedroom suites which would have more than enough room for a large family. Since our last stay they have completed a major renovation and expansion. I can’t imagine it being any more beautiful or wonderful than when we visited, but from what I have read, the renovation is absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to return and check it out! If you are looking for the best place to stay in Charleston South Carolina – The Restoration on King is the place to be!

Hi Tammy, it’s Suzy, Marianne’s friend in La Canada! I’m going with my girlfriends to Charleston this Saturday for a week and we are staying at the Restoration – what a surprise to see you stayed there. I can’t wait, never been, just wondering if you can recommend hot spots to shop at, eat at, see, experience there? We’ll be there for 6 days.
I have to tell you that your blog and especially your IG are my favorite places to go to and see. You inspire me much – thank you! I hope I get to see you this year at M’s party too. Hope you are well – I admire your talent!
Suzy!! You are too sweet! Thank you for all your kind words! That seriously just made my day!
I am SO excited for you to go to Charleston…it is amazing, and The Restoration is incredible! You will LOVE it! They have added on and made it even better since we were there last so I can’t wait to hear about your experience! I will send you an email with recommendations before you leave. 🙂
Have a great day and I hope to see you soon!
