Master Bedroom Remodel Ideas : Our Master Bedroom Remodel Before and After

It’s been a long while since I shared a before and after from the 1987 Fixer Upper, mainly because things have still been kind of in disarray as we get settled.  We don’t have furniture, and the decor will come after that, but today I thought it was about time I shared our Master Bedroom Remodel Before and After.   It’s funny, because when I bought this house I looked at the bedroom and thought that not much would need to be done.  If there is one lesson I’ve learned through this process…there will ALWAYS be things that need to be done. 😉 So let’s jump right into these master bedroom remodel ideas and I’ll show you what we did.

BEDROOM MAKEOVER – WHAT WE DID

I always thought this room was a great size.  Much like several of the other rooms in the house, they aren’t much bigger than our OC house.  This master bedroom is no exception.  It’s about a foot narrower than our CA house and about 5 feet longer because of the bay window.  You can see in the before pictures that they had a queen bed…something I didn’t really give much thought to when we purchased the house.  Well, what I discovered after I started construction is that part of the reason they had a queen bed I’m sure, is that the windows on either side of the bed were only far enough apart to accommodate a queen.  Oops.  Since we were re-doing all of the windows in the house, it gave me the opportunity to move those windows out about a foot on either side so that our bed would fit.  We also raised them a little higher…they had been pretty low to the floor and would have been covered by our large nightstands.  I didn’t love that the entrance to the master bedroom was straight at the top of the stairs.  Anyone going into the laundry room or coming upstairs would be able to see straight into the bedroom.  So, I solved that problem by creating the privacy wall that you see on the right hand side of the dresser.  I made the closet a bit bigger and added that wall so that I would gain privacy, and not lose the wall to put my dresser on.  Now, when you come to the top of the stairs and look into the bedroom you see that wall…not into the entire room.  We added can lights in the bedroom, a spot for a fan or chandelier above the bed, and, like all the other rooms in the house changed all the drywall, electrical, insulation, paint, flooring, windows, doors, baseboards, added window casings, smoothed the once textured ceilings. We also added new CAT5 wiring, internet, phone and cable access.
