Apple Pie is a staple of summer and lucky for us, fall is time for all things apples too. We have been fortunate enough to inherit a very productive granny smith apple tree, so I have become a little more creative in order to use up those apples!
This apple tree is so prolific and huge we can pick the apples from INSIDE the house right out those awesome old living room windows!
Look at all those apples!! The tree can barely stand up straight there are so many! The apples aren’t always perfect, but we just wash them and cut them up and have apples coming out our ears! The perfect excuse to make all the best apple dessert recipes, so I’m always looking for easy apple dessert recipes with few ingredients.
I love dutch apple pie al la mode, so I decided to see if I could whip something up that might be a little bit easier, but just as yummy.
Remember these baked cinnamon sugar apple slices? Well, guess what? They make an incredible sundae topping!
Since we’re always hosting lots of college students at the Alumni House, this Apple Pie Sundae Bar is definitely one of those easy apple desserts for a crowd…my favorite kind! It can be put together quickly and easily (you can make the apples ahead of time for sure), and is a super yummy treat any time of year.
I like the fact that it’s a little bit of fruit too…so maybe I don’t have to feel as guilty eating it? HA! At least that’s how I justify it. 😉
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR THIS EASY APPLE DESSERT
When I put this Apple Pie Sundae Bar together, I like to just put a bunch of toppings together that kind of give the feel of apple pie. Here are the easy ingredients to include in your sundae bar:
French Vanilla Ice Cream
Baked Cinnamon Apples
Candied Pecans – I get mine at Trader Joes
Granola – Love the crunch it gives and is reminiscent of a crust
Caramel Sauce (homemade or store bought)
Whipped Cream
Start with premium french vanilla ice cream. Top with your baked cinnamon sugar apples, then add some homemade caramel sauce. For a little bit of crust like texture and to mimic that crumble topping I like to add some granola.
A maple granola cereal works really well as a topping. Toss in a few candied pecans and add a dollop of homemade whipped cream on top.
Guys, this is SO good. Like why haven’t I thought of this before?!
There you have it. An easy apple dessert recipe with just a few ingredients.
I hope that this is a help for your next get-together. It makes a great dessert for fall football game parties, Halloween parties and an alternative for any occasion that calls for apple pie like the 4th of July.
