It’s hard to believe that it is already time for another fall home tour. Is it just me, or do these years seem to be flying by faster and faster? Well, believe it or not, we’re here and I’m excited to welcome to our Fall Home Tour! I just love joining Marty from A Stroll Thru Life in her wonderful home tours. She is such a great hostess and I enjoy looking at all of the beautiful fall home decorating ideas and everyone’s tours each season. I am doubly excited to be participating this year, because last year at this time we didn’t even have a completed home to share! If you are new to the blog, we have been in the process of moving across the country, gutting a 1987 fixer upper home and changing it completely from the inside out. It has been a wild ride! You can read more about it the whole process and see just how far we’ve come, here. If you are new to my blog or joining me from Brooke’s beautiful home tour over at Nesting with Grace, welcome! Isn’t her style amazing? I absolutely love her beautiful home…so inspiring! It’s such a pleasure to have you here. My design philosophy is all about creating a place where everyone feels welcome and comfortable. Where friends and family want to gather and stay for awhile. A place filled with things we love and that have special meaning to our family. I can’t wait to share it with you. I hope you’ll stick around for awhile. I love to share design, travel, cooking and all kinds of fun DIYs. This is such a fun week filled with 30 beautiful fall home decorating ideas. At the end of the post, you find links to all 30 fall home tours that will be happening this week, and you definitely don’t want to miss any of them!
Spending fall in Salt Lake City is definitely a change for us Southern Californians! We are used to September and October being two of the warmest months of the year…as a matter of fact, we often find ourselves at the beach even as late as early November with days in the 80s. Living in the mountains and watching the colors change and temperatures cool down drastically is kind of a fun thing to experience. It definitely makes getting into the spirit of fall a little bit easier! 😉 Adding fall home design to the living room is also helping.
This is the debut of our living room FINALLY decorated! We still have a LOT left to finish, but at least it is starting to look like a room now! 😉 . Curious to see what this room looked like before the remodel? You can see it here. I’d love to hear your comments about the transformation! 🙂 . The base of the year round design for this living room is really this gorgeous rug I found at HomeGoods. The color scheme and pattern are so pretty and very easy to work with. I can mix in colors of all kinds with accessories as the seasons change.
Fall home decorating in our house is more about making subtle changes to our every day decor. Just mixing things up a little bit and adding in some richer/deeper colors and fall foliage. Between Halloween decor and Christmas decor, the fall decor doesn’t really stand much of a chance at lasting very long, so I don’t over-do it. 😉 I have slowly been ordering new pieces for each room of this house, and this coffee table was a must from the first time I saw it! 🙂 I love the subtle pattern on top and those legs are just too fun.
Pillows are definitely one of my favorite ways to mix things up in a room for different seasons. They can fit in every budget, add color, texture and pattern to a space, and are easy to store when you are done with them. It is amazing how something so simple can totally transform a space. I added from to the wicker chairs for fall. I also fell in love with (the colors look pretty intense online, in person they are much more muted) for the couch. I bought for the living room in an oatmeal colored linen so that I have a great neutral backdrop for adding in colorful pillows all year long. A couple of added in more texture and then pulled out the reds and pinks in the leaves on the leaf pillows.
I LOVE to bring fresh flowers and greenery into our home. Bringing in more natural elements is a great way to celebrate the season since it really is all about the change in nature around us, right? This time of year there are so many pretty branches and leaves, be sure to make good use of them. If you use branches just trim the stem, clear away leaves on the lower part of the branch that will be sitting in water, and place them in a vase of water. They will last a LONG time and look beautiful just in their natural state, no special arranging skills required. 😉 I also added a with a few gold candlesticks and a white pumpkin to the coffee table. My candlesticks were purchased at one of my favorite boutiques in OC, but I found these at Crate and Barrel last week and they would be gorgeous too.
I tried my hand at making some fall florals and these darker, moody flowers are so fun! I even change out the books on display to books with darker bindings to work in more of those saturated hues for fall. This pretty little table is so sassy and the perfect spot to display something pretty. I love the marble top. The shape is super cute and I found in on sale for a total deal too.
This simple round mirror stays above the fireplace year round, it is another great staple that adapts to other changes in the room perfectly and looks good with just about anything. The price point is great too. I added one of my favorite antique store paintings that has all kinds of great color, along with a leather box, a fun metal pail of eucalyptus leaves and a favorite pictures of Ash. Along with pillows, mantels are another great place to mix it up each season. You can easily change the accessories to give your room a whole new look. This fall mantel from our CA house is still one of my favorites.

I still have a laundry list of things to purchase for this room. A sofa table and accessories for behind the couch, lamps, window coverings and drapes, a small table to put next to the piano, and some artwork for those bare walls…but we are getting there! I would really like to change out the fiddle leaf fig for an olive tree as well. I miss those when I am not in CA! 🙂
I’m excited to share the inspiration for this room throughout the year as the seasons change. This inspiration board will give you an idea of the coastal look I am hoping to achieve in here year round.
