I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a charcuterie board. I would be happy to eat one for every meal. Charcuterie boards are easy to make, usually please even the pickiest of eaters, and look beautiful. We have some different groups of guests coming in the next few months for weddings and graduations and birthdays and such, and making a simple breakfast charcuterie board can save you a lot of time when you are trying to keep guests fed and happy.

Breakfast Charcuterie Board Ideas
Probably the most important part of your breakfast charcuterie board? The board! 🙂 The size of the board depends on how many people you are trying to feed and “board” doesn’t necessarily have to mean board. A pretty, flat platter works just as well and if you really want to be wild, you can build it straight on your table! Think crab boil! Just roll out some parchment paper and build it right in the middle of your table. Here are some of my favorite boards and platters to use for building your breakfast charcuterie board.
Simple Breakfast Charcuterie Board
When building a charcuterie board, simplicity is key! If you are building a charcuterie board, chances are you are trying to feed a crowd, which means you are busy! A charcuterie board is a GREAT and simple way to feed a crowd. It allows people to graze at their leisure and feed themselves so you aren’t stuck in the kitchen all the time. Here are a couple of things you can do when building your breakfast charcuterie board to make it even simpler!
-Buy pre-made or frozen pancakes, waffles etc.
-Use fresh fruit- it looks beautiful and doesn’t need to be cooked
-Skip the hot food. If you want to add protein to your board add hard boiled eggs, greek yogurt or cheeses.
How to make a Breakfast Charcuterie Board Look Pretty
Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never made a charcuterie board before! It is so easy to make these boards look pretty! Here are the keys to making a gorgeous charcuterie board:
-Variety. I think what makes people feel so impressed and in awe of charcuterie boards is the abundance of food all in one spot. It feels fun and exciting to have this wide variety of foods in front of you. Pick a wide variety of types of food for your board. 6-7 items is a good place to start. I bought more for this breakfast charcuterie board than I had room for, so I had to scale it back a bit…or I could have gotten a bigger board. 😉
-Consider color, shapes and texture. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the way to go to bring in great flavor, vibrant colors and varying sizes. Do creative things with your fruits. Slice them in different ways. Fold crepes, use waffles for texture, stack small pancakes.
-Use a variety of ramekins and small bowls to hold dips and spreads. These add height and interest to your board.
-Don’t forget the garnish! Just like a home feels more alive with fresh greenery, your charcuterie board will feel prettier with fresh, edible greenery too. Think of herbs like cilantro, rosemary, mint, parsley, etc. to dress up your board.
How Much Food Do I Need For A Breakfast Charcuterie Board?
The 3333 rule has become a common way to help people know what to buy when trying to create a charcuterie board. The basic idea for a traditional charcuterie board would be 3 meats, 3 cheeses, 3 starches and 3 extras/accompaniments like nuts, dried fruits, olives etc.
Using this rule for a breakfast charcuterie board would look something like this: 3 fruits, 3 breads (muffins, donuts, etc.,) 3 spreads or toppings and 3 other breakfast items that don’t fall into the other categories…sausage, bacon, smoked salmon, hardboiled eggs, cheese etc.
In reality, there are no real “rules” to making a charcuterie board, but that is a help if you’re at the store and wondering what to buy.
What Foods To Serve On A Breakfast Charcuterie Board
Meats: Sliced Ham, Sausage, Bacon, Smoked Salmon, Salami, Prosciutto
Cheese: Hard cheeses like cheddar and gouda are nice and salty to counteract the sugar from breakfast breads and spreads. Soft cheeses like brie pair nicely with jams and honey and are great spread on toast and english muffins.
Breads: Quick breads like banana bread in small pieces, small waffles, pancakes, mini cinnamon rolls, donuts, muffins, bagels, toast, small crepes and croissants are all good options.
Fruit: Sliced fruit of any kind, citrus, pineapple chunks and melons are all delicious. Grapes add great color and fill spaces, sliced bananas make a great topping for pancakes and waffles. Berries add color, texture and fill in all kinds of little gaps on the board.
Spreads & Toppings: Peanut butter, cream cheeses, flavored butters, jams, jellies, honey, syrups, whipped cream and nutella are all yummy choices.
Other fun breakfast charcuterie board ideas: hard boiled eggs, granola, yogurt, avocados, the options are nearly endless!
How to Make a Seasonal Charcuterie Board
I think one of the most fun things about charcuterie boards is that you can make them to work with any season or occasion. For a Mother’s Day Charcuterie board add some pretty, edible flowers like pansies to your board as a garnish to make it gorgeous for mom. Try an Easter charcuterie board with all Easter candy. For a Halloween charcuterie board, use cookie cutters to cut your slices of cheese into shapes like pumpkins and bats to add to your board. You can have so much fun with these boards!
