After spending a chunk of time in Italy last year, I really just can’t get enough of all things Italian! With hot weather upon us and cold drinks in high demand, I decided to whip up a little Italian Soda recipe using some of the freshest flavors of the season. Have you ever made an Italian Soda before? It’s actually really easy. Italian soda syrup is actually just the same syrup Starbucks uses for your favorite drink. I know you can find it at World Market in tons of flavors, and Amazon has them too at a great price. Fruit flavors are best for these sodas. I’ve also added a little fresh fruit to mine…not traditional, but I like it! 🙂
Here’s what you’ll need to make your Italian Soda:
Crushed ice (I used pellet ice, which works too)
8 oz Soda Water (just plain sparkling water, like Pellegrino)
2 oz of Italian Soda Syrup (we’re using peach for this one)
1 1/2 oz Half and Half
Muddled Blackberries and Peaches
(to make muddled fruit, simply mash up some peaches (skinned) with a few blackberries and a tsp of sugar)
Place the muddled fruit in the bottom of a large, 16oz glass. Add crushed ice to fill the glass halfway. Add 2 oz of Peach syrup, then 8oz of sparkling water. When you are ready to serve pour the half and half on top and stir into the glass. So easy and SO yummy!! (I like to use these inexpensive pumps for my syrup bottles to make life easier)
Garnish with a fun straw, some mint for color and a peach slice. Serve and enjoy!
You can try other fun combinations with these sodas too, and if you don’t have the fresh fruit, or don’t want to add it, you don’t need to, I just liked the addition. 🙂 Try mixing a Strawberry and Lemon syrup or a Grapefruit and Orange syrup for great flavors.
