Family Room Design Ideas : The OC Ranch Reno

I am so excited to be getting to the point in the OC Ranch Reno process to be planning the furniture and decor design plan! This house will be used as more of a vacation home, so the design plan is going to lean more toward a beachy/CA col vibe. I am such a visual person that I have a hard time doing anything without creating a design board. Whether for my own home or client’s homes. It is so helpful to put together a board of the basics so that you can get the overall feel of a space before you spend the money to put it together. These family room design ideas are no exception! Here is the design board for this fun family room:

The floors in this family room are a wide plank brushed white oak…so very light and bright. Lots of white woodwork, accented with a great neutral greige wall color sets a great stage for these fun family room design ideas.

The base of this design is this pretty, neutral family room rug. It’s a wool rug, so nice and soft with a tribal inspired design while at the same time a traditional feel. I love it!

Leather is my go to when designing a family room. I love all the white and fabric couches that I see all over the internet, but when it comes to durability, and not absorbing smells from stinky teenage boy socks..leather can’t be beat.  A camel colored leather couch will compliment this room perfectly.

The kitchen island is black in this house, so I am using black throughout the house not only because it looks good, but it goes with everything and is timeless. I’m mixing this wood/black console with some modern art and black iron legs on both the side table and coffee table to pull those pieces together.

Light, cane backed side chairs bring in a beachy vibe, as does the surf board decor and my favorite surf shack book.

I can’t ever go without working some sort of blue into a project, so pretty denim/chambray pillows mixed in with some other fun patterns will play nicely off the leather on the couch, and the wicker on the chairs.

Since this will primarily be a vacation home, artificial plants are a must. You always want some greenery in a room to help it feel alive, but with being out of town for longer stretches, it will be too hard to keep real plants healthy, so these great fauxs will be perfect.

Accents will include wicker baskets, gauzy throws, and other organic, beachy feeling elements.

I can’t wait for these fun family room design ideas for this room to come together! This house is such a fun one to design. Stay tuned for before and afters of this remodel.
