EASY KID FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN TREAT IDEAS
This time of year, between neighborhood get-togethers, Halloween carnivals, classroom parties and church Trunk or treating events, it is ALWAYS a good idea to have some easy kid friendly Halloween treats on hand. I’ve made a few in my day…these pretzel spider webs are a favorite, as are these chocolate chip pumpkin ice cream sandwiches, and today we’re adding these adorable ghost cupcakes to the mix. We have had a bit of a hard time adjusting to baking here in a higher altitude. That has unfortunately resulted in many deflated batched of cupcakes (at least they still tasted good!). After several trial rounds we have a new favorite, one that is super duper chocolatey and tastes like a million bucks…and also cooperates with our altitude issues. We like to use this recipe…it is SO good!!
These cute and kid friendly Halloween treats are SO easy to make! All you need is frosting, these icing tips and couplers, a piping bag like this and some cute candy eyes and you’re all set. If you want to make them even cuter you can use fun cupcake cups like these waxy baking cups or these black and white paper polka dot ones like I used, but regular old cupcake cups from the grocery store will do the trick too! π
The secret to making these cupcake ghosts, is to use frosting that is super fluffy. You want it to be able to stand up nice and tall, but also have that creamy, light and airy feel, and of course, taste delicious! We like to use this buttercream recipe to frost our cakes and cupcakes. I think the addition of the whipping cream is key. I always used to make my buttercream with milk, until it occurred to me that making it with whipping cream gives it added incentive to fluff up. This recipe turns out pretty perfect every time, so give it a try and see what you think. So much creamier and better than with milk!
Once your cupcakes are cool, using your piping bag fitted with the correct tip, simply frost the cupcakes with an upside down cone-like shape. Wider at the base on top of the cupcake and getting a bit smaller as it goes up. It’s super easy…just three or four times around with the frosting. Stick two eyes on each frosting ghost and you are all set! These do NOT have to be perfect! As a matter of fact it’s a fun if they are all a bit different because then they all have their own little personalities! π
Now how is that for an easy kid friendly Halloween treat? You can whip these up in under an hour and you are all set to party and feed a crowd. Anything with a cute ghost on it makes a great kid friendly halloween treat. Have you seen these adorable and delicious pumpkin pancakes with whipped cream ghosts? Or how about these darling ghost meringues? So fun!
