This, my friends, just happens to be quite possibly one of the best desserts ever! No joke… because dessert is a serious thing to me! It covers all the “perfect requirements” a dessert should have…sweet… gooey… slight crunch…chocolatey,, caramel-ey…a perfect mix of different textures… it’s just perfect! My family gets so excited whenever I make this… and serving it with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce is of course, a must!
This is too good to not share with you all, and it is pretty fast to put together. I love to serve this warm, so I do the final bake while we are eating dinner. I just know this will become a favorite for you and your family!
Carmelitas
1 ½ c. unsalted butter
2 c. all purpose flour
2 c. oats (not quick oats)
1 ½ c. dark brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 package milk chocolate chips
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
1- 1½ c. nuts (your choice)
1 package heath bar toffee bits
2 c. caramel sauce
Easy Caramel Sauce:
2- 11 oz. packages of Caramel Bits
½ c, heavy cream
In a glass bowl, microwave the caramel bits and heavy cream fro 1 ½ minutes. Continue to microwave the caramel in 30 second intervals until they are soft enough to stir to a smooth caramel sauce.
Preheat the oven to 350 F. In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugar, salt and baking soda. Add the flour and oats and mix until a dough forms. Press half the dough on the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Take the pan out of the oven and place the chocolate chips (Both kinds) over the partially baked dough. Place a layer of nuts over the chocolate chips. Layer the Heath bar bits over the nuts. Pour the warm caramel sauce over everything. Place dollops of dough all over the caramel sauce. Bake for an additional 18- 20 minutes. Serve warm or cool. Cut into bars.
